Country House Style

Back to basics – this is the guiding principle behind the country house style, which aims to bring naturalness into modern homes. Rustic furnishings made from natural materials are combined with light, warm colors. Traditional decorations complete the look.

Overview

Typical of the Country House Style

  • Light, natural colors ranging from beige to red and blue.
  • Close to nature, plants, and seasonal decorations.
  • Idyllic, rustic country charm.
  • Solid wood furniture, often already worn.
  • Traditional decorations such as milk cans, tea sets, wooden cooking spoons, etc.

Basic Guidlines

The country house style aims to bring the cosiness of traditional country houses into the home. Such concepts are usually based on a bright overall look, which is achieved by incorporating wooden elements into the basic structure – these include, for example, window frames, rustic ceiling beams, or elaborate wall or ceiling paneling.

The style is often completed with cozy textiles and decorations that bring nature further indoors.

Materials

Wood usually forms the basis of this style. It can also be very rustic and worn. It is often complemented by stone and fabric. Cotton and linen are recommended—preferably in striking check patterns. Plastic is avoided in this style.

Typical Color Scheme

The base is mostly white, cream, and natural brown tones. Natural red, blue, or green tones add character. Tip: it is best to use tones that can also be found in nature, such as red tones reminiscent of clay.

Textiles add coziness. A mix of different colors and patterns (e.g., stripes, checks, or florals) shows personality.

Furniture & Furnishings

The interior design of a country house is very often based on wooden elements. Wood paneling on walls or ceilings is artistically carved and is the more spacious alternative to ceiling beams.

Solid wood furniture—often already showing signs of wear—is the choice for this style. This is complemented by rough benches equipped with comfortable cushions. Traditional ceramics and natural elements are used for decoration.
